This Flannel Friday is dedicated to that very naughty long-earred scamp, Little Bunny Foo Foo. Now, I know there’s a lot of controversy surrounding the antics of LBFF (e.g. encouraging violence/naughtiness). However, I just find this song irresistable. Plus, the kids go bananas for it, and I’ve never had any actual complaints from their parents. If one day, a parent complains that this song turns his/her child into a Little Johnny/Janie Foo Foo, I will revise my opinion, but until them, watch out field mice!
I don’t know why I never thought to make this a flannel before. I am, afterall a little scatterbrained, and I occassionally lose track of my chances. I attempted to fully flannelize this, but the pattern got too complicated, and I decided to go with laminated clip art. I chose this bunny because he seemed pretty unhinged. Originally, he was holding a sign. It looked a little like a mallet, but not quite enough. I found another image that depicted a man wielding a mallet, and photoshopped it into the LBFF image. I made the mice in different colors (just for kicks). I made 5 mice, depending on time, I start with either 3, 4, or 5 chances. Anyway, I’m sure everyone knows the words, but just in case:
Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice and boppin’ them on the head.
Down came the good fairy,
And she said,
“Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don’t want to see you,
scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ them on the head.
I’ll give you 5 chances.
And if you don’t shape up
I’m gonna turn you into a goon!”
Repeat with 4, 3, 2, 1
Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice and boppin’ them on the head.
Down came the good fairy,
And she said,
“Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don’t want to see you,
scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ them on the head.
I’ll gave you 5 chances.
And didn’t shape up
So I’m turning you into a goon!”

Glummy the Goon! Glummy is actually our Summer Reading Mascot. The kids in our library know, and love him. He's a good sport, so I hope he doesn't mind stepping into this role. He's really quite a lovely dude.

I was was nervous about this one too, but when I read ‘Little Rabbit Foo Foo’ by Michael Rosen, the visiting Nursery (Kindergarten) Teacher came up to the front to demonstrate the song, and also recommended The Singing Kettle theatrical show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxWFJZIdc3E to her little ones!

I was just thinking about this song last week. Classics like this have a place in story time. Thanks for bringing it up.

thanks! It’s good to hear. i don’t trust my judgment, because I’ve always had an unfortunate soft-spot for troublemakers. i’m glad you agree, because it’s really a very silly song
